Congratulations to Velo de Mer member, Scott Carrier, who was just selected to compete in the 2010 Duathlon World Championship. This event will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland (which is ironic in name and hopefully a good in coindence). Up to 1,000 of the world's best Elite and Age Group competitors will descend on Edinburgh's Holyrood Park from 03 - 05 September to compete for six World Championship titles, twenty seven Age Group gold medals and a total prize fund of 75,000 Euros (for the Elite competition).
The duathlon event consists of a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5km run and is expected to attract hundreds of elite and age group competitors from around the world to the Scottish capital where they will compete around Holyrood Park, Arthur’s Seat and the Scottish Parliament. British Triathlon also announced that GE, one of the worldwide sponsors of the London 2012 Olympic Games, are the title sponsor of the 2010 GE Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships. This event sponsorship is part of a much larger package that will see GE becoming Partner of British Triathlon Great Britain teams, providing support and expertise for the athletes as they prepare and compete at the highest levels in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Edinburgh course is expected to be one of the most challenging ever used for an ITU Duathlon World Championships as athletes contend with the tough climbs of a multiple lap circuit around Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. It will showcase the city of Edinburgh and Scotland as the perfect destination for the world's biggest and best sporting events.
This marks the 2nd time a Velo de Mer member has been selected to compete at the World Wide Level. Our last member to be nominated was, Mike Riordan. Mike was nominated and participated in the 2008 Almere ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, located in France. He finished 14th in his age group.
Congratulations Scott!
