Mount Washington Hill Climb:
Marti Shea continues to dominate in the BUMPS series. Just shy of first place by about 2min, Marti did an impressive 1:10:12 climb up the beast of the east. For those that do not know, Mt Washington rises from 1500ft to 6300ft in a mere 7.6 miles (The Mt. Washington races are the only races in this series on hills rated "hors categorie." ). This race also featured the amazing Ned Overend, who just barely missed 1st place in the mens group (Phillip Gaimon 23yr old) at 53 years old!

ECV TT Series - July 30
Mike Riordan, shown here, crests the last bump in the road before heading down the home stretch. With only 1 more in the series, Mike took 3rd in 55+ with a time of 28:28 - getting ready for the Triathlon Worlds in France. Shawn Gavin took 1st overall, with a time of 25:07, followed by Scott Carrier in 5th at 26:12 and Joe Tonon rounded out the top 10 in 7th at 26:41. Marti Shea took 1st in the womens group at 29:25, while the Heath clan showed that Jackson improves each time he rides...this time coming in at 37:43 and dad Parker, finishing 19th at 30:24. Photos can be seen HERE.
Marti Shea Wins Mt Washington Climb - Newton Revenge!!!
Marti of the Destination Cycling/Select Fitness contingent, was the first women's finisher, with a time of 1:14:22. To make things more interesting, her chain broke in the last 70 yards and she pushed her bike up the nastiest part of the climb to the finish. For those that don't know, the race gains 4723 feet in altitude from the lowest point on the Mount Washington Auto Road to the summit, 6288 feet above sea level. Awesome Marti!
Check out the YouTube video of the climb and see the suffering in action....
ECV Time trial series - Results Race #3 - 25 June 2008
A new course record set by Dean Phillips, breaking Pro riders Tyler Hamilton and Tim Johnson who held previous records. Dean's time was 22:37. Folks, that is an average of 30MPH! Congrats Dean! Following Dean was, Ken McCallum who came in 2nd @ 25:04, Shawn Gavin 3rd @ 25:19, Scott Carrier 7th @ 26:35, Parker Heith 31st @ 30:11 and Jackson Heith @38:18 -- out of 43 riders deep.
6/15 - ECV TT #2: Another prime evening brought a 50 rider max limit into the house of pain wednesday. And while Dean "the Machine" Phillips tied Tyler Hamilton's course record, again! Shawn Gavin edged out a 3rd place with a 25:12. Joe Tonon proved that you can do a sub 27 w/o any aero equipment, posting a 26:35. Scott Carrier took another 20 seconds off and is down to 27:06. Mike Dowd scraped off about 45 seconds for a 27:29. Mike Riordan dropped 30 seconds to 27:39 (folks that is 55+)! And finally Parker Heith nailed a 30:07, while his sub 10 year old son, Jackson did it in 38:17 -- watch out for future VdM guy in 10 years!
6/7 - Waterville Valley TT: This was a unique up and down 32K TT,
with over 1000ft of climbing. Vélo de Mer/Marblehead Cycles produced another solid representation at this newly minted race. An 85 rider deep field, that had a rather well skilled set of riders from CCB, NEBC, NHCC, Portland Velo and Corner Cycle - set the stage for some terrific performances. Shawn Gavin ended up 4th in the mens CAT 1-4 with a time of 46:34. Some other notable CCBer’s also faired quite well: Tyler Monroe placed 1st in the 45+ at 47:15, Jim Nash ended up 3rd in 45+ with 48:39 and Paul Richard of 35+ had a 47:39.
5/28 - ECV TT #1: The first ECV time trial for '08 produced some amazingly fast results and held 47 riders deep. With a tailwind on 133, riders were gifted to an otherwise tortuous headwind. In the end several VdMer's placed well. Joe Tonon* (of the Destination Cycling contingent of VdM) took 3rd in the 40+ and 7th overall. In the same age bracket, Mike Dowd managed 6th and 12th overall and Parker Heith snagged 10th, 29th overall. In the 30+ Shawn Gavin grabbed 1st and 4th overall, while Scott Carrier pulled 5th and 12th overall. Moving into the 50's is actually like stepping into the elite class. They produced some of the fastest times and in his first race of the season, Mike Riordan pulled a respectable 5th, 18th overall. Finally Marti Shea* (also of the Destination Cycling contingent) posted what I believe is a personal best, resulting in a 3rd for womens and 28th overall. Full times can be found <here>.
*It should be noted that both Marti and Joe raced without any aero equipment, and several (like 60+ miles) under their legs just prior. Some great times for sure!
5/24 - Melody Miles 5K: **Scott Carrier bagged a PR on this 5K with a 6:07 pace. He took 1st in the 30-39 age and 3rd overall. As he transitions toward to the bike for the summer, this caps an outstanding spring for Scott!
5/18 - Beach to Beach 5K: With a 6:13 pace, Scott Carrier grabbed 2nd in his category, 6th out of a 214 person field. Scott continues to rack up the points this spring and has made a great showing for Vélo de Mer/Marblehead Cycles
5/4 - Shoreline 5K: A 6:12 pace takes Scott Carrier to 3rd in the men’s 30+ and 4th overall.
4/13 - 12th Annual North Shore Wellness 5K: Continuing his domination this spring, Scott Carriers paces to a 3rd in the Mens 30+ and 6th in a field of 230 runners.
3/23 - 6th Annual Olde Salem Greens XC Race: Shaking out his winter legs, Scott Carrier let loose and grabbed 3rd in the men’s 30+ division and 10th overall out of 260 runners. We’re expecting big things from Scott this spring and the early showings prove he ready to make the grade.
