The Legal Edge - Sports Nutrition 02/13/2008

Given that a few members are dabbling in the finer points of human biochemistry, I am not going to tread in waters that are to formidable for my own good.   However, there are few subjects as wide and deep as nutrition when it comes to athletes.

We're all tending to lifestyles that can often make that extra effort seem infinitely harder.  Any edge is always a welcome sign, whether it takes the form of a new bike, high tech gps/wattage accessories or just the prevailing winds on 133 blowing at your back.

In the previous blog, we looked at food and how it can be an overlooked aspect of how we supplement ourselves.  In this entry, I wanted to share some insight that a few of you might find of value, I know I did.

There is a great web site that I often reference when confronted with a new supplement and its health claims.  As a casual contrarian to many areas in our western school of medicine and 'advanced' pharmacology, I look upon supplements with great caution.  This is especially the case as the FDA works more closely to restrict alternative therapies given big financial backings of pharma PACs.  But enough on that sidebar rant.

The site that I often visit is called: Supplement Watch (or:
http://www.supplemementwatch.com).  Since I am rather obsessed about recovery, I decided to explore their best rated supplements designed to address during and post recovery.  Interestingly, the same vendor surfaced on all my searches.

So although I am not endorsing any of these products, I thought you might like to take a gander at these findings.  If you click (
here) you'll see all the categories and vendors.  One outfit that keeps rising to top is Wicked Fast Sports Nutrition.  I've never heard of them before but considering I live in Boston, how can I refuse checking out a product that carries the name 'wicked'?

Given that we are on the front end of the season, now may be a good time to consider your line up for 2008!
